Lauren Stevens is a traditional printmaker based out of Tempe, Arizona. Informed by her ongoing study of Biblical symbolism and the prophetic visions, her practice allows her to tactically engage with ancient writings in a manner that is personal and ritualistic. The resulting artworks are her visual expressions of both reverence and investigative curiosity.
Stevens recently received her Masters in Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University after studying etching at the Kansas City Art Institute.
About my Printing Process
I create my prints using traditional etching processes that originated in the 16th century. The designs are hand-drawn into a copper sheet and etched in an acid bath. The plate, now carrying the eroded line work on its surface, transfers the design on paper when rolled through a printing press.
